Gerard Way's comic series The Umbrella Academy is coming to the small screen, and SOON.

Following the excitement of Gerard Way debuting the first look at the Netflix adaptation of his comic book series, we take a look at all things The Umbrella Academy.

The Umbrella Academy was announced as having been picked up by Netflix in July 2017, and when it was announced Gerard shared his excitement stating "I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix. I couldn’t think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Ba and myself had when creating the comic, and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live action show".

Now one year on, the series has had it's first press shot shared, and a loose release date has been revealed. Here's everything you could possibly need to know about the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Gerard Way's The Umbrella Academy.

What's the plot of The Umbrella Academy? What's The Umbrella Academy all about?
The live-action series follows the narrative constructed in the Apocalypse Suite comic books, and focuses on the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes. The rag-tag group of superheroes is made up of The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and Vanya (who appears to have no powers).

The plot follows them as they work together to solve the mystery of their father's death, all whilst falling apart as a unit due to their divergent personalities and abilities.

When will The Umbrella Academy be available on Netflix? What's the release date of season one?
While initially slated for a 2018 release by Jeremy Slater who is the writer for the series, it has been announced by Netflix that The Umbrella Academy is coming in 2019.

How many episodes are in season one of The Umbrella Academy?
Season one is 10 episodes long.

How involved is Gerard Way in the making of The Umbrella Academy?
Gerard Way is a co-executive producer on the series, and has been working on the production and development of the series.

Who's in the cast of The Umbrella Academy? Who are the characters?
Vanya (aka The White Violin) - Ellen Page

Famous for her roles in Juno and X-Men, Ellen Page was the first cast member to join the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy. Vanya is the most estranged member of the group. Vanya originally showcases no particular powers, other than an interest in music.

Luther (aka Spaceboy) - Tom Hopper

Most famous for his roles in Game Of Thrones and Merlin, Tom Hopper joins the cast of The Umbrella Academy as Luther. Luther was groomed by his father from an early age to be the leader of the Umbrella Academy — a responsibility that has always weighed heavily on him. He is resilient, a workaholic and possesses the ability of heightened physical strength. Upstanding to a fault, Luther always tries to do the right thing, even if that means putting others before himself.

Allison (aka The Rumour) - Emmy Raver-Lampman

Emmy is most well known for her roles on Broadway stages- most recently as a cast member on Hamilton. She plays the role of Allison, a beautiful, elegant, and a formerly world-famous movie star who possesses the power of suggestion – anything she says aloud comes to pass.

Diego (aka The Kraken) - David Castañeda

Noted as a director and actor, David joins the cast in the role of Diego. Diego is the beligerant brat of the family- not naturally as charasmatic or talented as his siblings, he's had to work twice as hard as they have to get the success he's had. He has a massive chip on his shoulder and as a result isn't well liked within the family.

The Boy (aka Number Five) - Aidan Gallagher

A star of Nickelodeon's now cancelled Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, Aidan plays The Boy- who appears to be a 13 year old boy but is actually a 58 year old man, perpetually stuck in the body of a child. With a low tolerance for fools, he's often the smartest person in the room.

Klaus (aka The Séance) - Robert Sheehan

Most well known for his role in the TV show Misfits, Robert takes on the role of Klaus- an affable character, but a bit of a mess and a drug addict. But relentlessly optimistic about the future. His powers are levitation, telekinesis, and the ability to contact the dead, although his powers only work when he is not wearing shoes???

Cha-Cha - Mary J Blige

Most famous for being an absolute RnB legend and Academy Award nominated actress, Mary J Blige takes on the role of Cha-Cha- an unorthodox and ruthless hotwoman whose clients have her travel through time to kill assigned targets. She may have gripes about the beurocracy of her employers, but this job is her life.
