We get in to the albums that inspire Oh, Weatherly, and influenced their album 'Lips Like Oxygen'.

Do you sometimes hear the influence of other bands in an album? So do we. Especially with the new Oh, Weatherly album 'Lips Like Oxygen'.

'Lips Like Oxygen' sounds like the soundtrack to a 2000s teen rom-com that never was, so we wanted to know what albums influenced it. Direct from Oh, Weatherly frontman Blake Roses, these are the albums that influence him:

When it comes to listening to music, I’m very weird about it. Since the start of Oh, Weatherly I haven’t really listened to much music at all, which probably explains why our music still has that early 2000’s feel to it! Here are some of the of bands that have inspired our sound in one way or another.

BLINK-182 'ENEMA OF THE STATE'
Obviously this is a totally seminal album for pop-punk. I loved how weird and random loads of the songs on that record were but the songwriting is undeniable. Also, it’s like *the* 00s teen movie album, isn’t it!

PIERCE THE VEIL - 'SELFISH MACHINE'
This one inspired both me and the rest of Oh, Weatherly in general. In my eyes the instrumental performances on this record are practically unmatchable. Flat out genius!

TAKING BACK SUNDAY - 'LOUDER NOW' // 'TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS'
It’s such a tossup between these two Taking Back Sunday albums because let’s be honest they’re both incredible. Two classic albums that definitely inspired the sound of Oh, Weatherly, especially when we were starting out and writing our first EPs.

MAYDAY PARADE - 'A LESSON IN ROMANTICS'
I got into this one a little later on in high school and it just blew me away. What I love about Mayday is how they’re able to capture *so* much emotion in their music – that’s something I’ve always aspired to. Jake from the band co-produced our new album which was a total honour, he’s an amazing musician and helped us out so much.

ICARUS ACCOUNT - 'SUNSHINE AND RAIN'
This is a record that not everyone will know but was big for me. They’re an acoustic duo from Florida and their music was a very big part of my life – these songs have definitely helped me through some hard times. Go and check them out right now if you’re not familiar with them!

SLEEPING WITH SIRENS - 'EARS TO SEE AND EYES TO HEAR'
I used to listen to the first Sleeping With Sirens’ album a ton when I was growing up. It’s that combo of a little bit edgy and a little bit emo, which made it the perfect growing up soundtrack!

And there you have it! If you're a fan of these albums, you'll probably like Oh, Weatherly as well. Give them a listen below:
