A meme started it all.
What started as an attempt at relatable humour sparked a massive debate that Rock Sound has found itself at the center of.
The meme that started it all is below:
10 SADDEST SONGS OF ALL TIME, RANKED:— Rock Sound (@rocksound) June 29, 2018
10. You can’t
08. The sadness
07. Of songs
06. In a list
05. Because everyone
04. Experiences music
03. In an individual and
02. Personal way
01. ‘Terrible Things’ by Mayday Parade
Now look. Clearly a lot of people agree with us that Mayday Parade's 'Terrible Things' is the saddest song of all time. But equally, there was a lot of disagreement. So here's the official list of the 10 saddest songs of all time, ranked. No discussion or debate.
10. 'Adam's Song' - Blink-182
"Please tell mom this is not her fault" honestly, if you need any further explanation in to why this is sad we don't know what to tell you.
09. 'Miserable At Best' - Mayday Parade
Because we've all felt heartbreak like this.
08. 'What A Catch, Donnie' - Fall Out Boy
Made all the sadder because this was the single that launched Fall Out Boy in to their hiatus.
07. 'One More Light' - Linkin Park
Surely the reason for this being one of the saddest songs of all time doesn't need to be explained. Just try listening to it without getting choked up.
06. 'Wish You Were Here' - Neck Deep
This one is deeply personal to both Ben Barlow and Fil Thorpe-Evans who wrote 'Wish You Were Here' together following the passing of their fathers, and friends. It's emotional and raw, and will make you cry.
05. 'Remembering Sunday' - All Time Low
This one has been interpreted a lot of ways, but the bottom line is you can literally feel Alex Gaskarth's heartbreak in every single piece of this song.
04. 'The Light Behind Your Eyes' - My Chemical Romance
Taking aside the fact that this is one of the last songs we ever got from My Chemical Romance, it's lyrically one of the most sad songs in the band's extensive catalogue. Whether you interpret it as someone saying goodbye to a loved one, or whether you interpret it as the band saying goodbye to their fans and breaking up, it's guaranteed to make you cry.
03. '19 Seventy Sumthin'' - Neck Deep
This one is literally the story of frontman Ben Barlow's parents relationship. It's honest, raw, and if the final chorus doesn't make you choke up and call your parents to tell you how much you love them, we don't know what to tell you.
02. 'Cancer' - My Chemical Romance
Seriously? "Because the hardest part of this is leaving you".
01. 'Terrible Things' - Mayday Parade
Mayday Parade didn't have to go as hard in that final chorus as they did. "So don't fall in love, there's just too much to lose" chokes up even the hardest, most emotionless people. It's the saddest song in the world and everyone just has to accept it.
