Nine Times Bands Got Super Nerdy

Whether they're covering theme songs from games and television shows, releasing games or just making sneaky appearances in games, we love it when bands let their inner nerd out.

Today August Burns Red shared a cover of the theme from The Legend Of Zelda. But it's actually so much more than that.

The metalcore titans pulled in pieces from throughout the game, making a giant mashup of the themes from The Legend Of Zelda games.

"For the cover, I wanted to do a mash-up of not only the original theme, but other pieces from the game as well, and since the dungeon theme flirts with the diminished scale, it just made sense to put it into a metal cover," bassist Dustin Davidson, who conceived and executed the guitar playthrough, explained. "It was a lot of fun to write and record and I look forward to playing it on future tours!"

Needless to say, we're pretty into it.

Which got us thinking... How many other bands have let their inner nerd out?

It turns out there's been a few. Whether they're covering theme songs from games and television shows, releasing games or just making sneaky appearances in games... We've uncovered the best nerdy scene crossovers:

ISSUES COVERING 'GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL'
They even made a custom drum-skin in the Pokémon font for this one!

But it doesn't stop there- Issues used 'Gotta Catch 'Em All' to open their set during the 2016 Vans Warped Tour (and just check out their Pokémon stage set).

SLIPKNOT AS PLAYABLE CHARACTERS ON PSP GAME 'INFECTED'
Remember the PlayStation Portable? Well. There was a game exclusively released on PSP called 'Infected', and the members of Slipknot were part of the playable character selection. True story.

OUR LAST NIGHT COVERING EVERY NICKTOONS THEME SONG EVER
A massive blast from the past- the lads in Our Last Night spent five minutes covering 11 separate theme songs from old school Nickelodeon shows. Everything from Spongebob Squarepants all the way through to CatDog is covered. Incredible scenes.

DON BROCO RELEASING A 'TECHNOLOGY' VIDEO GAME
Released to promote their single by the same name, the 8-bit game lets you play as any of the four members of the band while you fight aliens and cowboys who have invaded the band's Alexandra Palace show to abduct fans. It's a wild ride, and you can play it here.

ENTER SHIKARI COVERING THE GAME OF THRONES THEME SONG
Okay, but it's been almost four years and we still haven't gotten over the fact that Enter Shikari could have covered any song for the BBC, and they decided to cover the Game Of Thrones theme song. Absolutely brilliant.

BABYMETAL AS PLAYABLE CHARACTERS ON SUPER MARIO MAKER
In the Wii-U game Super Mario Maker, Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal are all stuck together and are available as one playable character, complete with their own sound effects! Fun!

AGAINST THE CURRENT RECORDING A SONG FOR THE LEAGUE OF LEGENDS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Recorded specifically for the 2017 League Of Legends world champs, Against The Current even made an appearance at the opening ceremony to perform it live!

GERARD WAY FEATURING ON A TRACK AS THE END CREDITS FOR FINAL FANTASY VII: ADVENT CHILDREN
What could be more nerdy than co-writing a song specifically for the end credits of a Final Fantasy film? Nothing. Nothing could be more nerdy. The song is a banger too.
