Sleeping With Sirens' Kellin Quinn looks back at 2016 and forward to the future in Rock Sound this month. Here's a taste.
"It’s been an interesting year for me; like one big learning experience. We’ve made a lot of changes as a band, getting ready to start over and tackle the next part of our careers.
"As much as I love ‘Madness’, that record came out of a huge mess. We made a different record, scrapped it and then had to get something done, so we wrote songs for our fans instead of ourselves. It’s an album full of anthems, and I love it, but now I want to find a sound that’s truly ‘us’.
"Going back to Warped Tour helped give me perspective on how far we’ve come. I wasn’t sure about it at first, because I’m always looking forward, and that almost felt like a step back. But it was exactly what we needed. It was weird seeing other bands doing it for the first time, laughing to myself thinking, ‘God, that used to be us.’ I kind of miss when it was all new, that feeling of not knowing what the hell was going to happen.
"It also made me want to shake things up in our scene. I saw a lot of catchy and fun bands on Warped, but none that made me think, ‘Wow, they’re going to change everything.’
"Maybe that falls to us. It’s a scary time in the world right now, but it could be a great time for rock ‘n’ roll. We need to rally people together, to try and make things better."
