Green Day's music has such an iconic status that has been used on TV shows for absolutely years. Here are some of the places you wouldn't have expected it to pop up.

'BASKET CASE' ON NEW GIRL

There are two types of people. Ones who storm to their room and turn their favourite album up full blast when they're annoyed and people who deny they have ever done it when they really have. In the case of this Season 6 episode of New Girl, Schmidt does exactly that with Dookie. Same lad.

'GOOD RIDDANCE (TIME OF YOUR LIFE)' ON ER
One of the most hearfelt songs in Green Day's discography and one that adds an extra layer of emotion to whatever situation it is soundtracking. In the case of ER the song makes an appearance while being sang at a funeral. We're not crying, you are.

'STUCK WITH ME' ON HINDSIGHT
A show about waking up in 1995 and trying to make the right decisions the second time round should definitely feature music from 1995, shouldn't it? This little beauty did just that. Very clever.

'MINORITY' ON SILICON VALLEY
The music featured on the closing credits of a show is just as important as the music at the beginning and the middle of it too. That's a fact justified by the appearance of this classic on the first episode of this comedy.

'BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS' ON SMALLVILLE
High school is serious business. American football is serious business. And this song suits both of those things down to the ground on this episode of Smallville.

'EAST JESUS NOWHERE' ON THE HILLS
The Hills and Green Day go together like strawberries and cream. Tea and crumpets. Punk-rock and stagediving. They just suit each other so well.

'KILL THE DJ' ON CSI:NY
CSI:NY actually made a whole episode which featured the music of Green Day. It doesn't get much cooler than that really.

'TROUBLEMAKER' ON GO ON
In a game of 6 degrees of separation you never thought that you could link Green Day to Friends. But you can! 'Troublemaker' made an appearance on this Matthew Perry sitcom.

'2000 LIGHT YEARS AWAY' ON LIMITLESS
Have you watched Limitless? You really should. It's absolutely brilliant. It's made even better by the soundtrack which at one point features this Green Day relic. What a time.
