Aside from fronting Issues and Woe, Is Me AND forging a solo career for himself, Tyler Carter somehow finds time to appear on other people's tracks! In celebration of his birthday here are 12 of the best.
DON BROCO – 'ACTION'
One of the most ambitious and ridiculous songs to come out of 2019, Tyler joins Tilian Pearson, Taka Moriuchi and Caleb Shomo on Don Broco’s homage to getting up and getting at it. Aside from a suitably soulful vocal performance, the highlight of Tyler’s involvement is found in the video. Fans of conscious toys attacking people in vicious ways will be very pleased.
ICE NINE KILLS - 'WHAT I NEVER LEARNED IN STUDY HALL'
The third and final part of Ice Nine Kills’ trilogy of songs saw the light of day in 2013 on the ‘Predator’ EP. Though two versions exist, with the other one to this being acoustic like the two other tracks were, only this one features Tyler where he perfectly compliments Spencer Charnas’ crooning. A truly lovely time.
ANDRÉS – 'HIGH SCHOOL'
This is one of the newest of Tyler’s guest appearances and also one of his most pop leaning. Well, 2019 did see the release of his debut solo full length ‘Moonshine’ so the more catchy side of life has definitely been on the mind. We can see that foot tapping.
NIGHTMARES – 'IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS'
For those unfamiliar, Nightmares were a brilliant band who released one album on Rise Records back in 2014. Also, for an extra nugget of info, Chapel’s Carter Hardin was their frontman. The more you know eh? Anyway, Tyler pops up at the tail end of this spooky number and absolutely smashes it. You should definitely give the whole album ‘Susperia’ a listen. Go on, do it now.
MAKE ME FAMOUS – 'INCEPTION'
Released back in 2012, Make Me Famous featured none other than Denis Stoff on vocals. Serving as a counter to the suitably brutal crabcore of the first half of this tune, taken from the album ‘Now or Never’, Tyler adds a layer of soulfulness to the rough edges in a way that only he can. Like watching night turn to day.
JAMIE’S ELSEWHERE – 'THE ILLUSIONIST'
In another edition of ‘What Band Did They Used To Be In’, Jamie’s Elsewhere feature Aaron Pauley of Of Mice & Men fame. Much more theatrical than Mice, ‘Rebel-Revive’ is a little gem of an album that is very much worse revisiting, even to hear Tyler giving it the big croon at the core of this tune.
TIME TRAVELLER – 'SUPER ALCALINA'
Time Traveller is the solo project of Cameron Mizell, producer to bands such as Memphis May Fire, Woe, Is Me, The Word Alive and many more. Released back in 2013 ‘Morla And The Red Balloon’ is currently the only music released under the moniker but it certainly packs a punch, blending together post-hardcore with smatterings of prog-rock and metalcore. It also features various guest stars, one being Tyler on this very track.
AGAINST THE CURRENT – 'COLD WATER'
Remember when every other month Against The Current would release an absolutely brilliant cover version? They were great weren’t they? Anyway, on this occasion they covered this collaboration between Major Lazer and Justin Bieber with a collaboration of their own. Can you guess who it was with? If the answer if no you haven’t been paying enough attention to this list.
ONE OK ROCK – 'DECISION'
There is very little as invigorating as listening to a ONE OK ROCK anthem. It makes you feel like you can do absolutely anything. Well you know how to take that feeling of invincibility and push it into total overdrive? You get Tyler Carter involved and put him toe to toe with Taka. Now you have an absolute monolith of a song and now you feel like you can fly. You're welcome.
BADXCHANNELS – 'III. COMPLICATED'
badxchannels is the experimental project of ex-Chiodos/D.R.U.G.S frontman Craig Owens. It’s very different to anything that Craig had put his name to before and this track featuring Tyler serves as the biggest departure. Though there isn’t a more suited vocalist to feature on it as it proves to be as soulful and sultry as it comes.
TILIAN – 'NOW OR NEVER'
Tilian Pearson is one of the busiest men in rock. From his early days of fronting Tides Of Man through to taking the helm of Dance Gavin Dance he somehow found time to release 3 solo records. Worthy of a standing ovation. Anyway, Tyler made an appearance on the first track taken from the first of those 3 solo albums, and what an introduction it is.
BLACKBEAR - 'CARS, CLOTHES, CALORIES'
Most recently seen alongside Yungblud and Marshmello on 'Tongue Tied', blackbear has been dealing out that sexy pop sound for nearly a decade now. Throw it back to 2012 and Tyler was getting in on the fun as well with this quick burst of club-bothering goodness.
