You voted for Frank Iero to be in the Rock Sound 50. Here he talks about who inspires him and the magic of creating art.

HOW DOES IT FEEL WHEN PEOPLE IN BANDS TELL YOU THAT YOU INSPIRED THEM TO FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS?

Says Frank: “That’s really amazing.

"All I’ve wanted ever since I was a kid was to be in a band. I started my first project ariound 11 years old and have been a touring musician since I was 17. Now I’m 35 and I’ve been doing this for the majority of my life.

"Music is such an amazing living, breathing, being. It communicates so much and transcends language barriers. It evolves and grows, not only with the artist who originally penned it, but with every listener.

"Artists are mortals, however the pieces they create are far from it. The songwriters and musicians that inspired me over the years live on in the pieces I have created and so on and so forth. To be a small part of that enormous creative cycle is beyond a dream come true.”

HOW MUCH DOES THAT FAN-ARTIST CONNECTION SPUR YOU ON AND PROVIDE FUEL FOR THE FUTURE?

I think we can push each other to do great things if you interpret that connection correctly.

"Because there is a fine line between creating what you think the fans want and creating what you need as an artist.

"If you play it safe and pander, then you’re dead in the water, but if you take the risk for the betterment of the art...even if they don’t get it at first, fans of the craft believe in the search for greatness and trust you to constantly push yourself to do your absolute best. Problems arise when you break that trust.”

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO?

Honestly, I look up to my brother and guitar player in …The Patience, Evan Nestor. He’s such an incredibly talented artist and the most positive person I have ever had the honor of touring with.

"He never ceases to amaze me with the things he can accomplish and the kindness and compassion he shows for people. I’ve learned a lot sharing the road with him these past three years.”
