Paramore's breathtaking second album 'Riot!' turns 10 today (June 12). To celebrate, we asked a bunch of awesome bands what the album means to them.
JOSH FRANCESCHI - YOU ME AT SIX
“Paramore were the first and probably only band to have our backs in the early days. I remember them putting us on a show in Colchester around about the time ‘Riot!’ came out. They took us to Nando’s and we just clicked. They’ve taken us to almost every place in the world as a support band.
"When I look back on ‘Riot!’, it reminds of a great time in my life, making friendships that have lasted over a decade. I’ll never be able to repay them for what they did for our band, they gave us a chance to put ourselves on the map. They’ve had some difficult moments through the years, and like us, lived out their teenage years in the public eye. But they’ve showed great character and like us all, they’re only human.
"Life isn’t easy, and the changing of members will have been tough, however the songs and level of performance speak for themselves. They have proven themselves to be an incredible force. The weird thing is, Hayley’s only a few years older than me, but I’ve always looked up to her. She’s always shown courage and a depth of character, which I admire. A truly great songwriter and performer who has only got better and better.”
AWSTEN KNIGHT - WATERPARKS
“When ‘Riot!’ came out, I remember trying to sing along with the songs to work on expanding my vocal range super often. Unfortunately, I’ll never unhear how bad I was at ‘Hallelujah’ but I fucking murdered ‘Fences’ and ‘Crushcrushcrush’.
"Also ‘Fences’ is my favorite Paramore song ever. Or maybe it’s ‘Still Into You’. Dangit. They’ve made too many hits. I can’t choose!”
DEREK DISCANIO - STATE CHAMPS
“‘Riot!’ came out at such a good time for me. I’d just finished my freshman year of high school and it was the perfect summer jam album.
"I was just starting to take singing and songwriting more seriously. I got so attached to Hayley’s melodies, vocal production and especially the low harmonies on every song. It’s influenced the way I write and record.
"The obvious hit singles are timeless but I specifically grew more attached to songs like ‘Born For This’ and ‘Miracle’, which might even be my all time favourite song!”
JAYDEN SEELEY - WITH CONFIDENCE
“‘Riot!’ was one of the first albums I really got into as a teenager. It was such an iconic record for the scene, and was easily one of my most played.
"As a young singer starting out I looked up to Hayley Williams for her range and control. She was one of the reasons I started looking into proper vocal techniques, which paved the way to me bettering my own voice.”

TAKA MORIUCHI - ONE OK ROCK
“The moment I listened to ‘Riot!’ I immediately knew that this was the sound I had been waiting for.
"I have so much respect for Hayley Williams as a top-level rock vocalist. Her performance, voice, and her presence is amazing, and the fact that she can seemingly sing any genre perfectly is something to be truly admired.”
CODY CARSON - SET IT OFF
“I had ‘Riot!’ on repeat from the day it came out. I was so impressed by the production, songwriting, and overall talent throughout the record. I was even lucky enough to see Paramore at Warped Tour when I attended as a fan. They blew me away across the board. They still do, and Hayley continues to inspire me to this day.
"Not only is her vocal control and talent on a level most people dream to be at, but she’s also humble and kind. I had the pleasure of meeting her at an awards show a couple years ago. We got chatting about singing and it turns out we have the same vocal coach. She was really nice and personable.
"That’s quite the standard to set: talented, charismatic and humble. I respect her so much for that.”
Happy birthday, 'Riot!'
