Vocalist Gabe Cavazos introduces us to American Fangs and their debut UK EP ‘Pomona’, out next week ahead of UK dates with Papa Roach in December!
"With each member coming from an extensive background in numerous local bands, it seemed like a perfect storm when American Fangs came together. We all consider ourselves gypsies in a sense - nomads who don't really have a set place to call home, and in the end, don't really want one. 'Writing music' may be a bit too churchy for what was happening early on. It was more of an anarchist cooking class - five of us throwing all of our favourite musical -isms, antidotes, and ultimately what we thought was missing from rock and roll into a pot, cooking up dish after dish. We would walk into the room and beatbox a song before we even picked up our instruments. That sort of spontaneous, unique approach to songwriting resulted in tunes like 'Le Kick'. Sometimes, the reality of how dirt poor, yet truly happy we were would result in a song like 'Duke' - a song about the value of money, or lack of, while pursuing love.
This EP is a metaphor for understanding how to be happy with, and without. The night we finished our lead single 'Pomona', we couldn't help but grin at how poppy and drunk it made us feel. We all agreed, THAT'S rock. We ain't ready to go."
