September 2014 Laid Bare: Against Me! Spill Slipknot Secrets, Brendon Urie Gets Shirtless + More!
With festival season over, it was REALLY hard to get out of bed in September. Thankfully, Fall Out Boy brought us new music, Laura Jane Grace caused some Slipknot drama and Gerard Way landed back on our cover. So it wasn't all bad.
In the new issue of Rock Sound, we relive the last 12 months in vivid detail with a little help from our friends in Bring Me The Horizon, You Me At Six, Gerard Way, Lower Than Atlantis, Architects, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Slipknot, Of Mice & Men, Mallory Knox, Linkin Park, Neck Deep and Suicide Silence. But we couldn't fit EVERYTHING in the mag. Here's aaaaall of the good stuff from September.
PARAMORE CONTINUE TO BE MONUMENTAL, POST 'LAST HOPE' LIVE VIDEO
Hands up if you spent the whole summer cursing everyone who was lucky enough to see Paramore and Fall Out Boy's Monumentour in the US. Just us? Oh. The pain was made a little easier when this gem from the run surfaced on September. Now can we please just have a Monumentour: UK edition? Can someone make that happen? PLEASE? Thanks.
UP SHE GOES: LIGHTS HOPS IN A LIFT
In a year that's seen Lights release her best album yet in 'Little Machines' and become a full-time mother, the Canadian synth-popper has showed no signs of slowing down. And as the video for 'Up We Go' landed in September, one thing was clear: elevators will never be the same. Wait, what?
MCR BRING THEIR BULLETS. FROM THE PAST. OOOOOOOOH!
Never mind the fact that the band has long since split up, we still couldn't move for My Chemical Romance news this year. September brought this decade-old studio video of the band recording 'I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love', and we all started wishing it was 2002 again.
SHREDDY KRUEGER COVERS ALEXISONFIRE, INTERNET GIVES IT A BIG THUMBS DOWN
REALLY, who thought this was a good idea?
5SOS DO A CAMDEN
Despite recently announcing three (THREE!) Wembley Arena shows for next year, 5 Seconds Of Summer landed in the cosier confines of Camden's Roundhouse in September for a one-off date as part of the iTunes Festival. Charlie Simpson was there too, and our Andy Biddulph just had the BEST time watching it all.

FALL OUT BOY RETURN WITH 'CENTURES', CONFIRM "THERE WILL BE AN ALBUM"
Let's be honest: this was all that really mattered in September. Continuing to do whatever the hell they like, Fall Out Boy dropped a new song in 'Centuries', while Pete Wentz told us "there WILL be an album". He wasn't lying, either.

GERARD WAY: "I DIDN'T HAVE IT ALL MAPPED OUT"
Ex-My Chemical Romance man Gerard Way landed back on the cover of our magazine in September but this time, he was all on his own. It's weird to think that a year ago, we'd never heard the words 'Hesitant' and 'Alien' put together, and now we listen to them nearly ever day. Welcome back, G-man. Now please NEVER LEAVE US AGAIN.

FOO FIGHTERS PLAY THE MOST UN-SECRET SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF SECRET SHOWS
With their 'Sonic Highways' campaign kicking into full throttle, September found Foo Fighters on UK soil. Why? Definitely not to play a couple of secret sets under the guise of The Holy Shits. Oh no. Definitely NOT that.
(we lied, it was definitely that)

BRENDON URIE GETS SHIRTLESS, DOES A QUEEN
This one doesn't really need much of an explanation. A video of Panic! At The Disco covering Queen's classic 'Bohemian Rhapsody' hit the internet in September and Brendon was, like, totally shirtless for the whole damn thing.
What's not to love about that?

NORTHLANE PART WAYS WITH VOCALIST ADRIAN FITIPALDES
Despite releasing stunning album 'Singularity' only a year earlier, Northlane vocalist Adrian Fitipaldes parted ways with the Aussie bruisers in September. Why? Mainly because he kept blowing his voice out, and realised a career in a heavy band like Northlane wasn't something he could handle.
"...for the majority of my career in Northlane I had been experiencing severe vocal issues. My voice had fully blown out more times than I could count and overtime has reduced my vocal endurance to the point where any screaming at all takes a toll on my voice. With the busy touring schedule Northlane has it became increasingly difficult to manage the situation and started becoming a real source of stress physically and mentally for myself. Sadly it got to a point where I wasn't able to enjoy the dream we had worked so hard to realise."

LAURA JANE GRACE TELLS ALL
Despite the band taking the utmost care to not reveal the identity of their new drummer, Slipknot's cover was blown in September by the most unassuming of whistleblowers. In a series of quickfire tweets, Against Me! vocalist Laura Jane Grace pointed the finger at her band's ex-drummer... and the rest is history.
Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag

We once had a drummer who sprained his ankle and wanted our tour manager to call 911 and have an ambulance come for him #entitlement

When our tour manager said no the drummers Daddy called him and scolded him saying the drummer was a "star" and needed to be treated as such

We once had a drummer who would go behind our back and tell house light people to focus all stage lights on him. #entitlement

We once had a drummer who threatened to sue us after he quit via twitter #entitlement

We once had a drummer who told me to move aside on stage cause the audience couldn't see enough of him #entitlement

I'm just kidding, none of that ever happened.

KING 810: THE HYPE MACHINE FALLS FLAT ON ITS ARSE
When King 810 finally made it to the UK in September for their first ever shows on our turf, we were all desperate to find out whether they were really worth the hype. As our David McLaughlin found out at their Islington Academy show in London, they, err, weren't.
"Within moments of them bombing onto the Islington Academy stage, the crushing reality is as deflating as a balloon popping seconds after it takes flight. Stunts, staging and gimmickry aside, it's quickly clear that King 810 are just a decent metal act with flourishes of aspiration – blunt force brutes with bleeding hearts. The most dangerous band in the world? Wishful thinking."

WINSTON McCALL GETS WET
...aaand finally, Parkway Drive's Winston McCall told us all about how much he loves a bit of bodyboarding.
