We love legends shouting out legends.

So the other day we were listening to music at Rock Sound HQ, as we usually do, when State Champs' absolute banger 'Slow Burn' came up on shuffle. And it was their mention of 'Everlong' in the chorus that inspired the collation of the times that bands shout out other bands in their lyrics.

01. STATE CHAMPS - 'SLOW BURN'

We love the shout out in the chorus to Foo Fighters' 'Everlong' with the whole "'Everlong' playing on the late night radio" lyric.

02. FALL OUT BOY - 'CALM BEFORE THE STORM'

This one is a bit of a cross-over, because in 'Calm Before The Storm', Fall Out Boy actually shout out P!nk's 'Let's Get The Party Started' when Patrick sings "Well there's a song on the radio that says ‘Let's get this party started’, so let's get this party started”.

03. REAL FRIENDS - 'BASEMENT STAIRS'

Mentioning Dashboard Confessional in the lyrics of the bridge is a pretty relatable moment, because who doesn't relate to "Let's go back to when thing weren't comlicated, let's go back to all those old dashboard songs".

04. BOWLING FOR SOUP - '1985'

It's a classic, and the chorus shouts out a host of 80s artists, including MadonnaWhite SnakeBlondieNirvanaBruce SpringsteenDuran Duran, U2Wham! and Motley Crue. There has to be a record here.

05. TOUCHÉ AMORÉ - 'NEW HALLOWEEN'

In this one, the lads in Touché Amoré mention song two from the Sun Kil Moon album 'Benji' ('I Can't Live Without My Mother's Love') and Deathcab For Cutie's 'What Sarah Said'. Check it out:
"How has it already been a year?
I skip over songs because they're too hard to hear
Like track 2 on "Benji" or "What Sarah Said"
They just hit too close when I'm already in my head"

06. ALL TIME LOW - 'THE BEACH'

We just love that moment in the first verse where Alex Gaskarth sings "Everybody's living like they're crazy in love". We just love a reference to Beyoncé's 'Crazy In Love'.

07. GRAYSCALE - 'PALETTE'

"I'm still listening to our Menzingers record, except song five off of it"

08. TROPHY EYES - 'MAY 24'

Lyrically one of the saddest songs in the world, this Trophy Eyes song references Blink-182 in the final pre-chorus, when John Floreani sings "I feel so fucking lost when I hear Blink on the radio, So fucking lost."

09. BLINK-182 - 'JOSIE'

In this Blink classic, they reference (by acronym) both Unwritten Law and Dance Hall Crashers in the lyric “And my girlfriend likes UL and DHC, and she's so smart and independent, I don't think she needs me”

10. GOOD CHARLOTTE - 'RIOT GIRL'

We love this Good Charlotte classic, and we especially love that they shout out both Minor Threat and Social Distortion in the lyrics. Legends shouting out legends.

11. WHEATUS - 'TEENAGE DIRTBAG'

We've talked a big game about a lot of classics, but this one will go down in history as one of the most iconic shout outs EVER.

Also, for fun you can switch "listen to Iron Maiden baby with me"  to "listen to FOB and My Chem baby with me" and it works really really nicely. You're welcome for that one.

12. ALL TIME LOW - 'SOMEWHERE IN NEVERLAND'

"We'll sing along to 'Forever Young'". 'Nuff said.

And we'll leave the last word to Against The Current's Chrissy Costanza:
