Code Orange have announced new album ‘The Above’, and shared its latest single ‘Take Shape’ – which features The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan.
‘The Above’ is set to arrive September 29 via Blue Grape Music, and will mark Code Orange’s first new studio album since their 2020 record ‘Underneath’.
The new LP has been self-produced by the band’s Jami Morgan and Eric “Shade” Balderose with engineering coming from none other than Steve Albini.
Demonstrating just how hands-on the band have been with this project, Morgan also got his directorial debut, working with frequent collaborator Max Moore, for the video for ‘Take Shape’.
Have a watch below.
Discussing the new project and the sound and feel they were after in making it, Morgan has said:
“We wanted the album to be able to wash over you with melody, aggression, and joy, but it was of equal importance that the closer you look, the more you are rewarded. It was to feel rooted in the “analogue” world, but with threads of digital reality binding things together.
“We wanted the sound and even the recording process itself to reflect that edict, so we enlisted Steve Albini at Electrical Audio to get the most real and raw version of the band possible, even recording us all at once in a room together for the first time in our career.”
Today’s album announcement follows the recent release of fierce tracks ‘Grooming My Replacement’ and ‘The Game’, which arrived at the start of last month.
