On Friday, September 19, the O2 Academy Islington opened its doors for the first time to a sell-out show from US punk rock kings Alkaline Trio.
So, what better way to celebrate 10 years of the venue being opened than a special 10-year anniversary with the band that kicked things off in the first place? None, we say. The 'Trio will return to the O2 Academy Islington on August 29 2013 for a special birthday performance. Speaking of the show, main man Matt Skiba has said:
"It is always an honour to play London. To have been at the beginning of an era with O2 Academy Islington was AMAZING. I remember that show being extra special and playing again for their 10th Anniversary is something we're extremely proud to be a part of."

Matt Skiba, irreplaceable frontman of Alkaline Trio (and long-forgotten electronic project Heavens) has announced he's working on a solo project entitled Matt Skiba And The Sekrets.
Oh, the best part? Joining him in the project will be My Chemical Romance drummer Jarrod Alexander and AFI bassist Hunter Burgan.
Speaking of the project, Skiba has said: “Creating a record on my own and deciding who plays and how the songs were structured, it was fun to do. I love working with my band-mates in Alk3 but to make a rock record that was just mine was something that I wanted to do.”
And what will it sound like? Well we've been told to expect dancy, catchy rock in an Alkaline Trio vein, with an '80s punk vibe. We'll take that!
