Hardcore can be such a macho genre, always encouraging people to “throw it down” and “fuck shit up”. But that doesn’t mean all hardcore bands have to be muscleheads, and this South Western quintet know it. On their debut full-length, they have already found the rare harmony between aggression and emotion that makes the best of the genre so cathartic. With bleak lyrical content, vocalist Shaun Milton’s screams and barks are unhinged and desperate, while the band behind him build melodic atmospheres and tension as well as any post-rock outfit. These lads have feelings and they’re not afraid to shout about it.
