Zu - The Way Of The Animal Powers

Rating: 8

Yes, the world needs a good rockin’ – but equally we all need something a little leftfield now and then and, bar the likes of the filling-loosening Sunn 0))) and the frightening drilling provided by Fantomas, Zu’s expressive and avant-garde combination of sax-led anarcho-jazz/ experi-rock is about as leftfield as it gets. Coming from the same innovative mindset as those at the Ipecac stable, ‘The Way Of The Animal Powers’ features this Roman trio’s most animated and powerful work to date. ‘Shape Shifting’ is like a Nubian string instrument in a head-on collision with Mike Patton, while opener ‘Tom Araya Is Our Elvis’ says it all…
