Youthmovies - Polyp

Rating: 7

For some Youthmovies fans this new EP may come as a bit of a shock. Having ditched their heavy progressive beats, this latest effort opens with female vocals and a full brass section. Yet opener 'Magic Diamond' transcends into a mash of ideas, contradicted with soothing guitar melodies. As 'Sad Trash' sets an uneasy atmosphere it is the perfect introduction into the stripped down '˜Tharzn'. The song is a poignant moment as a slow-build of layered melodies gives the track a gentle push. Unfortunately the thread is broken through a remix of 'Magdalen Bridge / Golden Palace', but Youthmovies may have just produced their most touching and explorative material to date.
