Yeah Yeah Yeah’s - ‘It’s Blitz!’

Rating: 7

Having swallowed a good few spades of subtlety since they initially burst onto the post-Strokes landscape, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ third album is an infinitely more full realised document than its predecessors. Guitarist Nick Zinner trades his six-string for synth-smothered sound, lending ‘It’s Blitz!’ a strange, detached sheen. The insistent indie-pop-disco of ‘Heads Will Roll’ is indicative of moments where Karen O is almost Gwen Stefani-esque in her breathily frantic vocalisations, were the former No Doubt madam dressed by a colour-blind Blondie, naturally. Catchier, poppier and braver, ‘It’s Blitz!’ is the most accessible the New York trio have ever been. Whether the fans will grow with them remains to be seen.
