This is a surprisingly assured debut by a Scottish four-piece whose average age is 21. It’s a record of powerful indie that owes debts to
Idlewild and
Frightened Rabbit in its blend of delicacy, prettiness and raw aggression. Single ‘Quiet Little Voices’ leaps from the speakers, a crescendo of post-punk riffs driven forwards by
Adam Thompson’s versatile vocal - restrained one minute, vigorous howl the next. It’s catchy as hell, but what keeps you listening (and keeps you coming back) is this band’s unpredictable intensity. The feeling remains that
Jetpacks could implode into white noise at any second.
