Walter Schreifels - An Open Letter To The Scene

Rating: 8

In his day job as frontman with seminal post-hardcore rockers Rival Schools, Walter Schreifels’ vocal utterances are the bastion of all that is upstanding and serious about the world. ‘An Open Letter To The Scene’, his first foray into the arena of the solo artist, displays a more laid-back approach to song and lyric writing, sublime-sounding tales of love and a Walter-penned CIV cover (‘Don’t Gotta Prove It’) being the order of the day here. Fans of Ben Kweller’s tongue-in-cheek, sunshine acoustic pop will be enamoured with ‘Ballad Of Lil’ Kim’. The album as a whole appeals accordingly and is the better for it.
