Von Sudenfed - Tromatic Reflexxions

Rating: 8

Calling Von Sudenfed a supergroup might be stretching the definition, but most musos would probably find it hard to not get a little excited about the members of Mouse On Mars teaming up with Mark E Smith. Of course, the outcome sounds exactly like The Fall with beats, but it's rarely less than exhilarating as the German duo splice together elements of grime, dub and techno with their much celebrated flair, while Salford's cheeriest chap spits his typically witty bile over the top to wonderful effect - there's even room for a bit of twisted calypso on the curiously entertaining finale 'Dearest Friends'. Periodically sacking his band mates might have kept The Fall fresh for all these years, but Smith really shouldn't try that tactic here.
