Two decades. Twenty years. Two hundred and forty months. You get the point. Wars, marriages, businesses, nations and many other things have not lasted as long as
Sick Of It All. To mark the 20th anniversary of New York's finest, a plethora of punk, metal and hardcore luminaries have assembled to record covers and pay homage. And some serious talent represents with
Bane, Pennywise, Himsa, Bleeding Through, Napalm Death, No Redeeming Social Value, Sepultura, Bouncing Souls, Madball, Hatebreed and others all uniting for the project to show their support and admiration for a band that have built bridges across musical communities while staying true to their own (newer bands take note about the last bit).
Winners on this compilation are
Rise Against with a perfect rendition of
'Built To Last',
The Suicide Machines going old-skool on
'Goatless' and
Unearth producing a megatough version of
'Clobberin Time'. Losers are
Walls Of Jericho with a quirky and pedestrian cover of
'Us Vs. Them', and
Comeback Kid who fail to catch the chaos of
'Step Down' with their accurate but slightly dispassionate take on the standard.
Minor grumbles aside this record is like the band it pays tribute to, bloody brilliant.
