Tortuga - Kings Of Albany

Rating: 6

If we've learnt anything from wasting half our lives in the local fleapit, we can inform you, with a fair degree of certainty, that Tortuga is a pirate infested isle somewhere in the Caribbean. What you may not know, is that 'tortuga' is Spanish for 'tortoise', a reptile that's not only rock hard but possesses a deliberately ponderous, yet unrepentant attitude to life as these five lads from Norfolk. The Iommi-sized grinds of Somethingness, Winter's Widow and The Lachrymose crash like waves upon the rocks of our soul, and Gareth Evans's tortured screams pave the road to madness itself, which epitomises the tortoise? Ok, so much for our half-assed metaphor...

Giles Moorhouse
