This Will Destroy You - Moving On The Edges Of Things

Rating: 7

While fans wait for new album ‘Tunnel Blanket’ due early next year, This Will Destroy You have kindly released a two-track EP to tide us over. ‘Moving On The Edges Of Things’ is more ambient experimentalism than post-rock, however. ‘Rituals’ begins with a white noise hum, peeling away to a strained pulsing that resembles a particularly heavy heartbeat. Drawn out fades simulate breathing before tribal drums add movement to the piece. If ‘Rituals’ is the man, then ‘Woven Tears’ is the machine. All metronomic drum-thumps and steam-hissed outpourings, it is colder and harsher. We await the full-length with baited breath.
