The Xcerts - Scatterbrain

Rating: 8

For all their bluster and hard work, The Xcerts seemed to be destined for a life rotating round the toilet circuits of the UK – another decent band unable to make that final push over the top. But with the confident ‘Scatterbrain’ they’ve come up with something impressive enough to suggest there’s hope yet – ‘Slackerpop’ puts a more melodic spin on the raucous messiness of early Brand New (doubtless dialled up by the Long Islanders’ producer Mike Sapone), while the likes of ‘I Scare Easy’ and ‘Carnival Time’ display songwriting chops that are mature beyond their relatively young years. All that early promise they showed? Welcome to Deliveryville, population them.
