The Portland, Oregon, indie-punk stalwarts have bounced back with their follow-up to 2006’s ‘The Body, The Blood, The Machine’ – this time on newly relocated (from Olympia, WA, to Portland) label Kill Rock Stars. Self-confessed purveyors of the ‘post’ genres – The Thermals claim to devise new and amusing sub-genres on a regular basis – the trio’s fourth full-length is a riot of colourful, deceptively sunny, post-grunge, post-punk persuasions. Fuzzy guitars, scruffy edges, yet perfectly formed, homely melodies, amount to an album set to be the soundtrack to several of your summers. Laced with anger and frustration, yet a prevalent musically upbeat disposition, this is one of the must-hear albums of 2009.
