The Sea And Cake - Everybody
A pretty offering, sure, but a bit too straight for its own good.

Not a distortion pedal in sight,
The Sea And Cake trade in that kind of inert, mild-mannered guitar pop best suited to quiet nights in, nursing a hangover and sipping water. Dynamically speaking, there are few surprises here – just a long, smooth ride across a generally flat sonic desert. While this can offer a pleasant enough journey, there's little here that demands much of the attention. There are some genuinely lovable titbits, from the plucky groove of
'Exact To Me' and the vaguely dirty (gasp!) psyche-jam of
'Left On', but they are sporadic and easily missed when floating adrift in a sea of forgettable tunes. A pretty offering, sure, but a bit too straight for its own good.
