The Pirate Ship Quintet - The Pirate Ship Quintet

Rating: 7

Quel surprise - yet another band with a pretentious name attempting to fill a GY!BE-sized hole in the post-rock scene. In all honesty The Pirate Ship Quintet are hopelessly generic, heavily-delayed guitars, mournful strings and brass, and a drummer pounding out rhythmic libations to the apocalypse - but they're also very good at what they do. Indeed, despite the fact that this particular reviewer is seriously considering committing post-rock-induced hari-kari, the agonised scream that heralds 'I Kina Spiser De Hund''s opening cluster fuck still manages to raise a significant shiver. Admittedly, that's partly due to the crystal-clear production job, but if your thirst for the epic is yet to be satiated, you could do a lot worse than this.
