The Kabeedies - Rumpus

Rating: 7

It’s all upbeat indie-pop for this chirpy quartet from Norwich. Their debut is like a short, sharp jab in the ribs from a pogoing teenager on the first drunken night out of their lives – and The Kabeedies may well provide the soundtrack to many such occasions. You envy that kid for a while, and then you’ve had enough. ‘Rumpus’ suffers from its one-dimensionality. Sure, ‘Petroleum Jelly’ tries to offer a slower pace, but mostly these are direct, angular pop songs aimed straight at your throat, like Alphabeat crossed with Los Campesinos! Good fun, certainly, but not worth lingering over.
