Is there a new wave of Britpop arriving? We only ask because bands like
The Brothers Movement generally arrive in vast shoals like mackerel (well, if mackerel had a fondness for expensive anoraks and Beatles albums). Of course, coming from Dublin,
The Brothers Movement would probably be highly insulted to be called Britpop, but their chest-out, scarf-waving anthems unmistakably owe a debt to
The Verve,
Oasis and, erm…
Cast. They can do heartbreak-ballads like ‘Someday’, 60s throwbacks like ‘Coming Home’ and light psychedelia like ‘Standing Still’, but while not bad, it feels like the tail end of a movement rather than the cutting edge.
