The Autumn Offering - The Autumn Offering

Rating: 7

When listening to The Autumn Offering’s self-tiled fifth album it’s hard to avoid the reality that the relevance of records such as these has somewhat expired. By drifting in the awkward purgatory that lays between metalcore and deathcore, instead of subscribing to one wholeheartedly, means ‘The Autumn Offering’ struggles to produce something inspired from either pool, although ‘Synapse’ and ‘Exhale The Locusts’ do try. Still, the vocals of Matt McChesney are agreeably beast-like and the sideways approach of songs such as ‘Bloodlust’ provide genuinely enjoyable escape from the quagmire, even if the latter does heavily rely upon In Flames’ perfected blueprint.
