The Amity Affliction - Severed Ties

Rating: 5

Aside from the obvious exceptions, decent Aussie rock and metal is a hard thing to come by these days, and despite The Amity Affliction’s best efforts, it mostly still is. Roping in the kind of clean/heavy/clean screamo-friendly cycle that has been peddled both on these shores and in the US for what seems like aeons now, ‘Severed Ties’ is far from a complete dud, but still lacks any real spark. ‘Fruity Lexia’ is a prime example; kicking off in gloriously anthemic, gung ho fashion before dragging itself back down into weak vocals and forgettable hooks. They’ll probably be massive anyway, of course.
