Taking Back Sunday - ‘New Again’

Rating: 8

The last album Taking Back Sunday made in the aftermath of a personnel shift was ‘Where You Want To Be’, which, following the departures of guitarist John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper, was a big, fat disappointment. This fourth full-length, the band’s first since six-stringer Fred Mascherino was replaced by new axeman Matt Fazzi, is anything but. TBS have become masters of their pop-rock trade; right from the opening title track through to the anguished closer ‘Everything Must Go’, ‘New Again’ is choc-full of brilliantly overblown, glossily-produced hooks, choruses and melodies. It’s perfectly executed; Taking Back Sunday have delivered another hit album.
