Sundowner - We Chase The Waves

Rating: 8

That Chris McCaughan can write heartsore lullabies and miniature anthems almost at will isn’t in question; after all, even before becoming Sundowner in 07 for debut ‘Four One Five Two’ he played the more sentimental half of The Lawrence Arms. This follow-up is more of the same, in the best way possible: ‘In The Flicker’ and ‘All Prologue’ nail his familiar worn enthusiasm, and ‘As The Crow Flies’ is the sort of song that could break your heart if you listened to it while walking home in the rain. Quite wonderful, but then it was always going to be, right?
