Story Of The Year - The Constant

Rating: 6

It’s not often a band is accused of being too versatile, but Story Of The Year somehow achieve this with ‘The Constant’. The album veers from radio friendly rock-stomper ‘I’m Alive’, to hardcore screaming in ‘To The Burial’, before a Busted-style ballad pops up on ‘Holding Onto You’. You’re left wishing Story Of The Year had chosen one style and really worked at it, especially as when they get heavy on ‘Won Threw Ate’ all of the pieces fall into place with tangible energy. ‘The Constant’ does what it says on the, er, CD; constantly good, but with more focus it could have been brilliant.
