Sometimenever - Father Hope

Rating: 7

This Cambridge quartet’s debut received a largely underwhelming response when it came out a few years back. Their followup will surely elicit more widespread enthusiasm. There are moments amongst these nine songs that are redolent of Million Dead and Reuben, but Sometimenever are by no means copyists. In fact, one of the more refreshing things about this record is how they go against the grain, creating individualistic, unrestrained and often haywire post-hardcore, fronted by the impassioned, frequently spoken word vocals of Adam Powell. None of this comes at the expense of melodies or song structures, as marvellously proved in ‘Mr. Parks Hand?’.
