Rating: 6

At last, then, S*M*A*S*H have given in to the national clamour and reformed. In the early 90s they were the poster boys for one of the more spurious and short-lived 'scenes' of the time, The New Wave Of New Wave. They had one or two good songs but were otherwise far too ramshackle to survive. The weird thing is, 15 years or more later, they're almost the same. If you thought The Libertines were musically incompetent then steer well clear of 'Scratch Until You Bleed'. Nevertheless, they do have a certain emotional directness that most of today's corporate indie lacks. It might not be time to book the O2 just yet, though.
