Featuring former Poison The Well guitarist Derek Miller, Sleigh Bells’ debut is a strange one. From the very first hit of Gabba-style drums, booming bass, stabbed synths and electronically-manipulated guitars, this is the sound of a band either reinventing electro-pop for a new generation or mutilating it to within an inch of its life. However, within that confusion lies the exact success of this record. Get your head round the likes of ‘Kids’ and ‘Rill Rill’ and you’ll discover great musical beauty, quality and depth. It’ll probably help if you’re on mushrooms, but nevertheless this is quite something.
