Sky Larkin - The Golden Spike

Rating: 8

How exciting it is to finally get one’s hands on the debut LP from the raucously enigmatic three-piece racket otherwise known as Sky Larkin. Fusing sumptuous guitars, off-kilter bass riffery, quirky beats and the powerfully silken vocals of frontwoman Katie Harkin, this is undoubtedly the sound of the first truly refreshing, female-fronted UK indie outfit for quite some time. With the kind of guitar-laden melodies that will send dancefloors into a flurry of whimsically flung limbs and propel indie kids across the world into spurts of joyful headbanging on the school bus, ‘The Golden Spike’ is crammed with indie-rock anthems that, when fully-fledged in the live arena, will be a truly spectacular sight.
