Sights And Sounds - ‘Monolith’

Rating: 8

It’s hard not to admire the kind of attention to detail that Canadian rockers Sights & Sounds utilise on this, their debut album. There has clearly been a concerted effort by the band to perfectly hone post-hardcore motifs with metal, trading in slow and wielding soundscapes while gleaming inspiration from Oceansize in one moment and Tool the next. Pushing and groaning beneath weighty atmospherics tracks like ‘Storm And The Sun’ and ‘Sorrows II’ provides Comeback Kid frontman Andrew Neufeld with the ideal unhinged vocal score that draws comparisons with Maynard – in A Perfect Circle-era. The band’s inherent ability for penning unnerving tracks boasts reflective and introspective music at its finest.
