Shadows Chasing Ghosts - The Golden Ratio

Rating: 8

Following a sold out EP, Shadows Chasing Ghosts’ debut album could well echo its predecessor’s fate. While it’s typical of the genre to keep things hit heavy and pack in as many epic, floor-filling choruses as possible – which ‘The Golden Ratio’ certainly manages to do – it’s harder to find a well constructed, listen-all-the-way-through screamo record. With a clear arc between the aggressive, the affirming and the anthemic, with the acoustic ‘Timelines’ taking the edge off in the middle, you get a real insight into the band’s musical aptitude as well as an arsenal of sing or shout-along material. Nice work.
