With a new found comfort in stability, Max Bemis’
Say Anything find themselves stretching outside their usual avenues on ‘Anarchy, My Dear’. This is their protest record, and Bemis is far more self-aware than self-loathing this time around. ‘Admit It Again’ will please longstanding fans, revisiting Max’s disdain for hipster culture once more with such impossibly punctuated delivery, while ‘Sleep’ and ‘So Good’ are sufficiently progressive pop numbers to keep fans old and new on their toes. Say Anything have always been a hard pill to swallow for some, and while ‘Anarchy…’ doesn’t change that, it shows that they have far more than just the one spanner in the toolbox.
