Sailors With Wax Wings - Sailors With Wax Wings

Rating: 8

A solo offering from R. Loren of Pyramids would, in and of itself, represent cause for intrigue, but when said album also boasts everyone from James Blackshaw and Aidan Baker to Simon Scott and Prurient as contributors, then the weight of expectation becomes, quite frankly, unbearable. Thankfully, ‘SWWW’ almost lives up to its stellar list of guest names. So while the furious tremolo picked guitar lines that characterise Pyramids’s output are very much to the fore, the record touches upon everything from ambient doom and shoegaze to all out textural noise, without ever compromising its incredibly singular vision. Outstanding.
