Russian Circles - Geneva
There are still moments of spellbinding perfection...

It would be best to ignore the number sitting next to
Russian Circles’ name. ‘Geneva’ isn’t a terrible album, helped in part by the creativity of
Brain Cook, whose bass reverberates around these tracks like the last rumblings of a fading storm. However, it’s rather underwhelming, and shows a promising band getting trapped under formulaic songwriting. There is little here that wasn’t already expressed on 08s ‘Station’, with only the odd charge of brass or quiver of strings showing a step forward. There are still moments of spellbinding perfection, but this is a band still yet to reach their zenith.
