In the four years since the release of their debut Purified In Blood have broken up, reformed, signed to Spinefarm and also managed to write a fantastic new album. ‘Under Black Skies’ channels this energy into a forceful blend of polished modern death, with occasional hardcore and industrial elements. ‘Thunderheads’ kicks off fiercely, before ‘Death Priest’ rolls in on a chugging, Ministry-like stomp and ‘Beneath The Pyre’ threatens to kick the shit out of you with its big Pantera groove and slight Mastodon prog influence lurking around the edges. Summer may be coming but you’ll bang your head under black skies.
