Psyopus - Odd Senses

Rating: 8

Odd? Try face-stabbingly mental… Darker, weirder and more complex than ever, Psyopus’ third outing is a feverish tech-metal nightmare that makes The Dillinger Escape Plan sound like Fleetwood Mac. Guitarist Christopher Arp reaches new heights of absurdity with his intricate and unorthodox shredding patterns, while new recruits Michael Horn (bass) and Jason Bauers (drums) put their extensive musical training to excellent use on numbers like ‘Medusa’ and ‘Duct Tape Smile’. The whole experience is like battling through a hall of mirrors filled with razor wire and demonic hummingbirds, but those who survive the ordeal will be duly rewarded with ‘A Murder To Child’, an exquisite piece of string-soaked modern jazz. Good times.
