PROPAGANDHI - SUPPORTING CASTE

Rating: 9

The massive riff that launches Propagandhi's fifth album in ‘Night Letters’ ambushes you, bursting from guitar reverb, announcing that the Canadian quartet are back in emphatic fashion. If you know anything about this legendary band, you’ll know that they have fine form in making amazing records, so it’s no surprise that this follow-up to 04s ‘Potemkin City Limits’ is exceptional. Brilliantly presented, as ever the lyrics and liner notes are as captivating as the band’s thrash / punk delivery, as they rage about subjects ranging from meat consumption to the depressingly inevitable self-destructiveness of the human condition. Few bands are so engaging and thought-provoking. Even fewer rock this hard. ‘Supporting Caste’ is utterly essential.
