Portugal. The Man - ‘The Satanic Satanist’

Rating: 5

Portugal. The Man feature ex-members of post-hardcore types Anatomy Of A GhostJohn Gourley and Zach Carothers on vocals and bass, respectively – but are far from musical bedfellows with their previous endeavours. ‘The Satanic Satanist’, their fourth full-length effort, is a confusing title in itself, as this Oregon-based quartet slip and slide over incredibly mainstream-friendly, middle-of-the-road, alt-rock interludes, peppered with big, melody-heavy choruses and a sense of familiarity. ‘Work All Day’ will infiltrate your grey matter and take root for the best part of 24 hours, but that doesn’t mean you necessarily want it there.
