Polar Bear Club - ‘Chasing Hamburg’

Rating: 8

In true Polar Bear Club fashion, ‘Chasing Hamburg’ roars along at a ferocious pace, reserving precious moments to accommodate the New York quintet’s sensitive side. Their sophomore album kicks off in riotous mode: opener ‘See The Wind’ exudes a fearsome energy that whips around pounding guitars and fiercely spat vocals, while ‘Drifting Thing’ sees frontman Jimmy Stadt turn on his choirboy-esque charm. With Matt Bayles (ex-Minus The Bear and hardcore super-producer) at the helm, this album boasts an edgier vibe to its predecessor. Soaring melodies reign and most songs invite fists skyward. It’s accessible melodic hardcore at its best – the energy is relentless and the sincerity unyielding.
