BRIDES - OCULAR.UNVEIL

Rating: 7

Lashed by the unforgiving Channel and littered with its fair share of mediocre electro venues, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Brighton was just another typical seaside town, all stag-dos and Saturday night punch-ups. One frequently forgets that beneath the surface there lies a burgeoning rock scene, the likes of Architects and (previously) Johnny Truant unleashing their respective onslaughts onto the wider world. Brides could well follow in those footsteps. ‘Ocular.Unveil’ rocks with a might and prowess reminiscent of Gallows yet with the subtle, emotive aggression of A Wilhelm Scream's formative years. Co-vocalists Max and Tristan work off each other superbly, and what they lack in originality they more than make up for in quality songwriting.
